...I came that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly...Jesus
John 10:10
Why do we give tithes and offerings?

In Luke (chapter 6, verse 38) the Bible says to "give and it shall to be given unto you."  This is not the
only reason people give to the church.  In Exodus (chapter 35, verse 21) the Bible also says that God
stirs a person's heart to give.  The money is used "for the work of the tabernacle [building] of the
congregation, and for all his service and for the holy garments."

Why do we anoint with oil and pray for the sick?

In the Bible, specifically James chapter 5 verses 14-15, it is commanded of us to do so.  It states "is
there any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him,
anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord
shall raise him up."

Why do we lift our hands?

Lifting up your hands is another way of worship.  In Psalms (chapter 134, verse 2) the Bible says to
"lift up your hands in the sanctuary and bless the Lord."  It also says in 1 Timothy (chapter 2, verse 8)
"that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting."  Lifting up your hands
is not only a form of worship, but also a way in which we let God know that we believe, without any
doubt.

Why do we clap our hands?

This is another form of worship.  "O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with a voice of
triumph."  (Psalm 47:1)  Clapping our hands signifies our knowlegde that our God is victorious.
